Elections: The Opportunity to Shape a Better Life and Brighter Future
Our lives are constantly shaped by external forces and circumstances, many of which are beyond our control. Yet, there is one crucial moment when we have the power to exert our influence and steer the course of our future – elections. In these crucial moments, we are granted the power to determine the direction of our nation and, subsequently, the trajectory of our own lives. After all, who among us doesn’t aspire to live a better life and enjoy a brighter future?
So how do we make the decision about those things that will make our lives and futures better? An analysis of information published by NZ Politics Daily from June to October 2023 reveals that the topics receiving the most coverage in June saw relatively little change over the subsequent three months, other topics that made the top 10 were climate change, tax, Labour and National.
Heading into the election, extensive media coverage focused on healthcare, the economy, housing, transportation, business, and education. A dedicated interactive visualization provides in-depth information on each of these topics can be found at the bottom of this page.
Notably, the dominant media outlets largely concentrated on these same issues, raising questions about the media’s influence in shaping New Zealanders’ priorities.
